As a Christian, you hold certain values close to your heart. Christian drug rehab will allow you to embrace strategies for recovery that also embrace your Christian beliefs.
Traditional rehab programs work to help you revamp your physical, mental and emotional addictions to the drugs or alcohol. While this type of therapy works for some addicts, it isn’t really ideal for an addict who is a Christian. As a Christian, you need to work on your spiritual needs first and then everything else will begin to fall into place. You will still have to work through the physical, mental and emotional aspects of your addiction, but you will have God on your side if you choose a Christian drug and alcohol treatment program.
God Has to Come First in Your Life
Christian rehab facilities place God at the head of the program. This is why they are so successful. God expects to be the top priority in your life. Being first is so important to God that he made a promise to Christians in Proverbs 3:6. According to the New Living Translation, “Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.”
By seeking God’s will, you acknowledge that He is in control. This means that you are willing and able to accept His help. God will help you through the rehab and recovery phases of your program if you just let Him handle things. As you do God’s will, you move up the path toward Him. As you draw near to God, you will begin to develop strength and other Christian character qualities that will help you along in your quest to live a life that glorifies God instead of living a life for the devil.
During your Christian rehab program, you will learn how to put God first. You will be provided with a lot of different tools and opportunities to grow your faith in an environment that shows you love, accepts your past mistakes and supports your new lifestyle.
God is in the Healing Business
Addiction to drugs or alcohol is a sickness. It is an affliction of the devil’s doing. It is important to remember that God can heal any sickness, even addiction. In Matthew 9:22, Jesus heals a woman who had been bleeding for 12 years. He didn’t have to heal the woman, but she had faith. The verse says, “Jesus turned and saw her. “Take heart, daughter,” he said, “your faith has healed you.” And the woman was healed from that moment.”
Going through the physical withdrawals of your addiction may necessitate the need for medications to help you get through the rough spells. While you will still be able to get medications for valid purposes, you are less likely to need them when you are participating in a Christian drug rehab because you will be in tune with your spiritual side, and you can ask God to help you get through the pain.
God Can Strengthen Your Faith Through This Test
God is all powerful. He can raise the dead. He can heal the sick. God doesn’t want His children to suffer. He wants what is best for His chosen people; however, there are times when God has to strengthen us.
In the book of Job, God lets the devil do anything he can think of to Job, a man who loved God with all his heart, with the exception of killing him in order to test his faith. Job never turned on God, and eventually, Job was rewarded. This didn’t happen until Job lost everything he had. He lost his money, his home, his family, and he had to suffer painful sores all over his body. Now, if God can turn all of that pain and sorrow into a blessing for Job, He can transform you from an addict to a light that shines bright enough to lead other addicts to a life of righteousness.
Throughout your Christian rehab program, you will work with clergy members and other staff members to find ways to turn the experiences of your past into a testimony for your future. God may decide to use you to minister to other addicts. He may decide to use you to help teach children to say away from drugs. He may use you to show others that living a life for Him is possible regardless of what your past looks like to the world.
