Therefore take heed that the light which is in you is not darkness. Luke 11:35
When you face your darkness and let God’s light shine on that darkness and reveal your deepest secrets, lies, and fears, you naturally move toward light in all things. As said through the Disciple John, darkness cannot comprehend light. As you grow closer to the light of Christ, the darkness cannot thrive.
We are also reminded in scripture that if we walk in the night (darkness), we will stumble.
Once you choose the Light you can begin to life a full life again, one that is devoted to God and witnesses your recovery to others struggling in the darkness.
Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.” John 8:12
Right now you might feel like you couldn’t be of help to anyone, but that will change as you detox from drugs and alcohol and begin to clear you head and cleanse your body. Drugs and alcohol have polluted your temple – so of course you have been selfish, cruel, deceptive, and hurtful all in the name of obtaining drugs and getting high.
As you move into recovery and begin to feel like a child of God again, you will become a witness for others who are struggling with addiction. You become the light to those who are in the darkness of active addiction.
You will discover a great fellowship of men and women who like you have chosen this path. They will help and guide you, just as you will help and guide the newcomers who come after you.
